1. THE NEED OF CIVILIZATION
Ralph was left, holding the conch, with no one but Piggy. Piggy’s breathing was quite restored.
“Little kids!’ he said scornfully. “Acting like a crowd of kids!” (Ch.2/Pg.38)
=This indicates without mighty rules to let the boys follow obediently, there will be a chaos and boys will do anything they want to.
"We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything." (Ch.2 Pg.192)
=To prevent being a savages, the boys realized they need rules and civilized life on the island with leader to lead them.
All the boys except Piggy started to giggle; presently they were shrieking with laughter.(…)
“That little ’un—”gasped Piggy—“him with the mark on his face, I don’t see him. Where is he now?”
The crowd was as silent as death. (Ch.2/Pg.45-46)
=While other boys were laughing, without noticing seriousness, Piggy yelled out saying he can’t find a little boy. Boys couldn’t say any word as apparently, it was their fault.
2. THE EVIL WHICH LIES WITHIN MAN
“You're no good on a job like this.”
“All the same –”
“We don’t want you,” said Jack, flatly. “Three’s enough.” (Ch.1/Pg.24)
=Jack showed a definite natural evil which lies within man by disregarding Piggy, saying that he can do nothing although Piggy tried to insist everyone is the same.
3. MOB RULE-CROWD MENTALITY
Ralph was chosen as a leader although it was apparent that Jack wanted to get that position.
This indicates as one boy started to choose Ralph to be a leader as he was holding a conch, other boys started to agree and as a result, Ralph became a leader of the group instead of Jack.
4. THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE
“Things are breaking up. I don’t understand why. We began well; we were happy. And then—”
(Ch.5/Pg.82)
“Jack! Jack!”
“The rules!” shouted Ralph. “You’re breaking the rules!”
“Who cares?” (Ch.5/Pg.91)
“I got the conch—“
Jack turned fiercely.
“You shut up!”
Piggy wilted. (Ch.2/Pg.42)
5. POWER AND THE ABUSE OF POWER
"Shut up," said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. "Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things."
"A chief! A chief!” (Ch.1/Pg.22)
Ralph pushed Piggy to one side.
"I was chief, and you were going to do what I said.” (Ch.4/Pg.70)
6. BLINDNESS AND SIGHT
Piggy’s specs were stolen by hunters.
=Piggy hardly was able to see without his glasses.
Piggy's death.
=It can be clearly seen that Piggy was killed by a boulder that fell right above from him. Although, Ralph who was nearby, dodged himself, Piggy without his specs was literally blind.
7. THE FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN
“We may stay here till we die.”
With that word the heat began to increase till it became a threatening weight and the lagoon attacked them with a blinding effulgence.
(Ch.1/Pg.14)
=The boys feared unpredictable future whether they can live on the island without any grownups and be rescued.
“Maybe,” he said hesitantly, “maybe there is a beast.” (…)
“What I mean is… maybe it's only us.”
(Ch.5/Pg.89)
=Simon started to indicate that the beast might be they themselves. This was the first evidence of boys turning into savages.

KEY QUOTES
"We did everything adults would do. What went wrong?"
"Maybe there is a beast...maybe it's only us."
-Chapter.5: Spoken by Simon
"What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages?"
He found himself understanding the wearisomeness of this life, where every path was an improvisation and a considerable part of one's waking life was spent watching one's feet.
"There isn't anyone to help you. Only me. And I'm the Beast...Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!...You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close! I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are the way they are?"
-Chapter.8: Spoken by Lord of the Flies during Simon's illusion
Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man's heart, and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend called Piggy.
