SELF KNOWLEDGE JOURNAL
1. What knowledge, skills and understanding have your gained while studying these topics?
While studying on this topic, Lord of the Flies, I gained knowledge on human rights, Kohlberg's theory, 'Freeze, Flight, Fight Response', and morality about righteousness and badness that all human beings have in their mind. I also learnt that human nature is nasty, brutish and short through views of John Locke, additionally, on the side of Thomas Hobbes, I learnt about human deserve to have their rights, and all men are born equally. Additional to these, about the theory of social contract, which meant the basis of realization of society is formed by the community that every human beings have equal rights, was also one that I gained knowledge from. Through activities in the class, code of conducts was learnt which were ideas that most people came up with and let it be the standard of right and applied to every human beings. This topic actually helped me to understand further more about rules and laws that are applied to us in our life. After all, on these topics, it made me rethink about how cruel the natural instinct of human being is. |
2. What did you find most interesting or engaging? What did you find the least interesting or least engaging?
I found class activities such as discussing about a particular topic in rounded tables and speaking out thoughts and opinions, as most interesting in the class. It actually helped a lot to develop my own thoughts in more advanced ways then I even enjoyed fishbowl as one of the activities that was most engaging to me. Fishbowl, which is also rounding up but into one small and big circles and people sitting in smaller circle will be the one who speak and give their thoughts out when asked, it supported my ideas and understand the main points and details of the Lord of the Flies just like rounded tables I mentioned in previous. Additionally, working on large sheets which, as a team, wrote everything down about a particular topic given and sticked it to the wall of the classroom, was enjoyable as well. Furthermore, it was fun having performances presented in the class as a team of three or four students in, which was about: ‘How do fear and desire for acceptance influence human behavior?’ On the other hands, the least interesting activity in the class was debating through the presentations prepared by teacher and answering questions in there. |
3. What is the most important idea you have taken away from our time together?
The most important thing that I’d took while studying on this topic was about morality and human nature. Through studying and discussing about these topics, I gained knowledge about how important rules are there for regulating our society, then, how evil the human natural instincts are. To be specific, how nasty and cruel people are within the society.
