SUMMARY FOR CHAPTER 1 TO 12
CHAPTER 1 (The Sound of the Shell)
First chapter starts off the story of boys on the island introducing fair boy whom named Ralph, and fat Piggy who has asthma. While Ralph was wandering around the jungle and met Piggy. While they were on their way to the beach, they discovered a large creamy pink-colored conch and Piggy convinced Ralph to blow it to call other survivors. By the blast of the conch, littleluns who were scattered around and boys of choir gathered up to the place where Ralph and Piggy were. As the boys realized there were no grownups to supervise them, so they elect a leader who could lead them in order to survive. Ralph was appointed as a leader while Jack obviously seen as he wanted to get that position. To satisfy him, Ralph selected Jack as a leader of hunters, the choir. Analyzing the jungle, as a team of Ralph, Jack and Simon, climbed up to the cliff and realized that they were on the island. On their way back to the beach Jack encountered a wild pig that was trapped in tangle of vine and tried to kill it but he hesitated. While his hesitation, it ran away from him and Jack made promise to himself that he will not hold back his action to kill it next time.
CHAPTER 2 (Fire on the Mountain)
Returning back from the expedition of the jungle, Ralph called for another meeting by blowing the conch, telling other boys that there are no adults or grownups to take care so that they need to collaborate together and look after themselves. Furthermore, Jack told them about the pig he met and Ralph announced hunters to have a hunting for food. In addition, Ralph made the conch as a symbolism of power and whoever held a conch will have the right to speak. Piggy scared the boys shouting out that no one knows that they were plane-wrecked and isolated on the island which meant they might not be able to be rescued. That moment, one of the littluns murmured that he saw a beastie (monster) last night in fear and trembling but older boys, especially Ralph, assured that there are no such monsters on the island although they also felt creepiness. Another problem the boys encountered was ‘being rescued’. Thinking about it, Ralph suggested an idea to set a big fireplace on top of the mountain, hoping any ships passing by the island to see it. While Ralph and Piggy remained behind, boys got excited about new thing and rushed to the mountain to build a fire. Piggy continuously whine out about disorganization and immature actions of the group. Boys started to collect bunch of dead wood and Piggy’s specs were used to set the fire using the sunlight and hunters took charge of the fire as it dies in quick. Piggy angrily yelled out not to act recklessly just like a little kids as more organized condition was needed with strict rules to follow as there was no grownup to supervise them. At that moment, due to reckless efforts to rekindle the fire, it quickly spread its flame. As a result, trees nearby were caught on fire and top of the mountain became a sheet of fire. In furious, Piggy asked about a littlun who said about a beastie. In silence, no one could reply him back.
CHAPTER 3 (Huts on the Beach)
While other boys were busy playing in the lagoon, Ralph and Simon were building huts for littluns. Ralph was worried about small kids’ inability to sleep because of nightmares. He tried to share his concerns with Jack but, whom has failed to catch any pig in the jungle, was not interested in Ralph’s problems, yet, only in killing pigs. Ralph was irritated by Jack’s actions and hunters, implying that they are just using title of hunter just to avoid other works that mainly Ralph is taking. Then Jack replied back to him that kids want meat. This conflict started off the chain of hostility between Ralph and Jack and they went to swimming together to resolve it though dislike to each other remained in their mind. Simon wandered around the jungle, helping little kids (littluns) to get fruits hanged from branches of tall trees. As he walked deeper into the jungle he found out a spacious open space fully filled with amazement of nature. For the time being, Simon sat down and enjoyed the peacefulness.
CHAPTER 4 (Painted Faces and Long Hair)
Soon, boys developed their rhythm in daily routines on the island. Most of boys enjoyed the daytime napping, swimming, or playing on the beach or in the lagoon. However, on the other hands, nightmares raised fear among the boys at the nighttime. Littluns, especially, suffered from nightmares of beastie and were badly off from diarrhea due to excessive eating of fruits. In different ways, littluns’ lives were in a bad circumstance as older boys, whom named Roger and Maurice, harassed and treated them harshly. Ralph and Piggy saw a ship on the horizon but at the same time, realized the fire on the top was gone. They rushed up to the mountain and tried to rekindle it but failed to do so. Ralph furiously felt anger towards Jack and other hunters because it was their responsibility to keep the fire. After the return of hunters with dead pig, singing, Ralph accosted Jack’s irresponsible actions of signal fire. Piggy made an another complaints to hunters on their immaturity. However, Piggy was ridiculed by Jack as he slapped and knocked Piggy down until one of his specs broke but Jack didn’t seem to care about it. Ralph told them to be responsible for their own duty and, at last, Jack admitted his fault without apologizing for it. At this time, friendly feeling towards Ralph changed to resentment over him in sudden. The barbecue party started. Boys laughed, sang a song, and danced all around the fire with joy and freely. Ralph went down to the beach alone, declaring he will call a meeting.
CHAPTER 5 (Beast from Water)
As he walked down to the beach, Ralph felt frustration towards Jack and other boys' silliness and stupidity who abandoned rules (the only thing they had to maintain the civilization on the island) and became barbaric. Then, he decided to put things in straight just like the time when they first landed on the island and stayed in civilized life. Ralph blowed the conch to call for a meeting and boys gathered up unwillingly. During meeting, Ralph urged the boys to follow the rules which was the only thing left they’ve got in order to maintain civilized mind. In silence, one of the little boys suddenly said that he had seen ‘beastie’ in real last night. He spoke that the monster might live under the ocean and comes out only at night-time. Chaos attacked the boys with fear and confusion. Jack suddenly claimed if there’s any beast on the island he and hunters will hunt and kill it. After Jack and his hunters ran away after giving afflicting harassment to Piggy, Ralph was worried about boys’ ignorance of the conch and tried to abdicate his position but Simon and Piggy encouraged him that they can’t live without his guidance as the leader and will return back to his group in soon.
CHAPTER 6 (Beast from Air)
Above the sky at night time, there was battle between airplanes. However, no one was able to see the brightness of explosions caused by the battle as Sam and Eric, twins who supposed to watch over the signal fire, were asleep. When they woke up in the morn, they saw a shadowy creature which Sam and Eric mistaken the dead parachutist as a monster. They felt fear towards it and rushed down to the huts where everyone was and claimed that they have seen a monster. Another disorganization risen, and boys started to plan their expedition with sharpen wooden spears to hunt that monster down while Piggy and littluns remained behind. Jack was allowed to lead the group of hunters and they reached almost the end part of the island where no one has explored before. There was a small cave on the way up to the new mountain. Abrading any monster, none of the boys could enter. Ralph went into the cave alone with confident while others were scared to go in and Jack followed him though he was also terrified to do so. As they climbed up, excited with discovery of new mountain, boys started to play and have fun throwing stones off and began to lose control forgetting about the real purpose. In rage, Ralph admonished them to be more cautious and act wisely. Although, the boys didn’t want to follow Ralph, they sarcastically obey.

CHAPTER 7 (Shadows and Tall Trees)
Gazing the endless horizon, Ralph felt abandonment of hope to escape from the island. Simon encouraged him again by reassuring that there will be a rescue and all of the boys will be able to return back to home. In the afternoon, they saw a pig and it was decided to search for beast while chasing the track of wild boar. Ralph, who never hunted before, felt exhilaration in quick during the hunting. He chased after the boar wildly just like the other boys did. Although the boar escaped, the boys were exhilarated by the aftermath of hunting. And they played a chasing game just like reenacting hunting which Robert acted as a boar however though it was just a game, boys actually jabbed Robert, losing their control. As Robert felt threaten to his life, he suggested to everyone that it will be better to use the real pig next time. Ralph realized the seriousness of the game and tried to convince the boys to be more civilized but they now followed Jack more. In truth, Ralph already taken the position of chief as his rules and disciplines were replaced by savagery while hunting as what Jack wanted life in the island to be. And after game ended, Simon went back to the beach to tell Piggy and littluns that they will not return back until the late of night. When darkness fell, Jack and Ralph planned to climb up the mountain in the morning as it will be difficult to see any beast in the dark. Then, Jack suggested Ralph to join the hunter group and after thinking about regaining his position as a leader, he agreed to incorporate. Jack challenged to climb up the mountain while Ralph and Roger waited nearby. With terrified face, Jack dashed back from the top, acclaiming out he had seen a giant monster just like Sam and Eric said. Three of them went down to warn the others.
CHAPTER 8 (Gift from the Darkness)
The incredibility of existence of monster spread out among the boys next morning. Piggy felt confusion hearing those news as he was absent on the mountain at night before. Unhandily, Jack held the conch and blew it aloud to call a meeting. He asserted that there is a monster living on the island and made the boys to vote for abdication of Ralph from his position as a leader. However, boys didn’t want to remove him out of power yet. Jack, suppressing feeling of shame, rushed off from the group, saying he will welcome whoever come and follow his way. Ralph was depressed to know that he was disqualified to be the leader, however, Piggy encouraged him by mentioning about building new signal fire on the beach. This idea helped Ralph to restore his strength and gain hope that they will be rescued soon rather than mountain’s fire. However, when darkness fell, many of the boys sneaked out to be members of Jack’s group and Piggy incited Ralph not to be too miserable thinking about deserters. Along the beach, away from Ralph, Jack and his newly formed tribe gathered up and relish their freedom from rules. Boys went wild and killed a pig. Enthusiastically, they pierced and stabbed the dead pig using sharpened stake and placed pig’s head immovably on the stake. As soon as blood dripped, boys rushed off from it. While Piggy and Ralph were discussing about Jack’s new group, hunters with vociferous shoutings, then, stole ignited wooden sticks from the fire. Jack yelled out to remaining boys that whoever comes to the feast tonight will be welcomed even though they didn’t join his tribe, tempting them to gratify their hunger and join to his side. Before the feast starts, Simon slipped away to the place where he had been amazed with the beauty of nature, however, there was pig’s head instead in the darkness, now infested with flies. Simon was mesmerized and captivated that it seems the pig’s head came alive and speaks to him in the voice of ‘Lord of the Flies’. Simon frightened and fainted away by the dreadfulness he felt, hearing its voice.
CHAPTER 9 (A View to a Death)
Simon woke up with conscious and a bloody nose. The Lord of the Flies was hanging on the stake "like a black ball” in stillness. Simon staggered out from the place and walked towards up the mountain. When he gets to the top, he saw a dead parachuter, who was tangled up, creating beast-like shadowy silhouette. Simon puked as he smelt rotten decayed body and rushed downward to tell others that there was no beast but only a dead parachuter. In the meantime, Ralph and Piggy joined Jack’s feast to make sure nothing happen to the boys still as an obscure leader. Jack, with painted face open-armed and served them with food and drink. After the feast, Jack demanded to know who will join his tribe but everyone wrapped up in silence. Ralph trembled his voice yet claimed that he is still a leader of the group but no one could agree under a heavy atmosphere. Thunder accentuated the mood of seriousness. Ralph suggested to have an assembly by blowing the conch but Jack responded no one will hear it. In the ignorance of abandoned leader, boys started to dance wildly, singing and shouting out over and over: “Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!”. Simon, who came down to where feast was held, cried out to the boys that the beast was just a dead man, but in fury of wildness, the boys mistaken Simon as a beast. They pounced, struck and tore him without any words. Rain poured down fiercely and the boys straggle away on a sudden, leaving unknown heap in the dirt with stained-blood. As the harsh wind blowed, a dead parachuter was carried down to the sea which made the boys to dash away, screaming into the darkness. Eventually the rain stopped, and as water rises under the moon, Simon's dead body moved out toward the sea.
CHAPTER 10 (The Shell and the Glasses)
In the next morning, Ralph and Piggy met on the beach, feeling ashamed of their actions and behaviors last night, participating Simon’s death. The feelings of guilt swept over them making Ralph to be hysteric and Piggy to whine in melancholy. At the moment, everyone except Sam and Eric and some littluns has joined Jack’s tribe. At the Castle Rock, mountain on the island, Jack ruled his tribe with absolutism. Boys were beaten up with no apparent reasons. Jack announced Ralph and his group as a threat to the tribe so that hunters have to obtain some more fire from their camp to guard their place from attacks of Ralph and the beast which Jack assumed Simon as a real beast that can change its appearance and thought it has not totally dead yet and then there will be hunting again for the beast tomorrow. That night, while boys were asleep in tiresome accompanied with nightmares, Jack’s hunters attacked the huts and beat Ralph and other boys up harshly without them knowing the reasons of sudden cruelty. Piggy recognized why they were assaulted. Hunters stole his specs, the only power to build a fire.
CHAPTER 11 (Castle Rock)
Ralph blowed the conch and remaining boys assembled on the beach. Then, they decided to go to the Castle Rock, where Jack’s tribe was, to take back Piggy’s specs back, bringing the conch shell with them to remind the authority and power of former leader to boys. When they got there, the boys with painted faces who were guarding the Castle Rock, blocked them from entering by throwing stones aimlessly. Jack and hunters, dragging a dead pig, showed their appearance from the forest. As soon as he emerged, Jack demanded Ralph to leave but Ralph didn’t and argued that they have right to get Piggy’s specs back but Jack wasn’t convinced by any words from him. Suddenly, Jack attacked him fiercely with great violence and the two leaders-former and current leaders-started to fight. Again, Ralph tried to convince him by mentioning importance of signal fire to be rescued, Jack didn’t even listen to him and commanded hunters to capture Sam and Eric and tie them up. This action enraged Ralph and second fighting started. Piggy tried to defuse the situation by yelling out to Ralph to remember what they actually came to Castle Rock for, also, he suggested that rules will lead them to better life on the island rather than hunting and breaking things up but nobody paid attention to him. At that moment, Roger fell a enormously large rock from above to where Piggy was, holding the conch. Ralph dodged himself after hearing sound of rock falling, however, Piggy who was practically blind without his glasses got hit and fell towards the sea. The conch shattered into numerous pieces and only the sound of sea waves sucking Piggy’s body proved his death. Jack started to throw his spears and Ralph got hurt from it and ran off from the Castle Rock. Tied-up, Sam and Eric were forced to join Jack’s tribe.

CHAPTER 12 (Cry of the Hunters)
Ralph was now completely alone as there were no Piggy, Simon and even Sam and Eric. He hid himself, then later on, sneaked out after realizing no one appears. He decided to make his way to where Jack’s tribe was, allured by the smell of roasting pig. On his way, Ralph encountered a skull of pig’s head which spoke to Simon in previous time. The eeriness swept over him and Ralph smashed it with his fist but still felt it was grinning at him. He grabbed a spear which pig’s skull had been impaled. At night, Ralph felt deep isolation watching over Jack and savages near the Castle Rock. Cautiously approaching to Sam and Eric, Ralph called them silently but the twins told him to go away. Hearing a footsteps, Sam and Eric ran off, giving Ralph a hunk of meat.
The next morning, his hiding place, a dense thicket, was revealed. The boys endeavored to let Ralph out by setting fire and throwing stones. As Ralph escaped, stabbing boys near his way out, the tribe followed him with ululating sounds. Ralph hid under another thicket, yet discovered soon by Jack. Another smoking which burnt the trees rapidly. No other ways. Ralph again plunged out from his hiding place attacking savages and dashed away. Stumbling, he rolled down the hill and make it till the beach.
There, with a ship in the water, a British naval officer was surprised to see a boy. The officer gave greeting to Ralph: “hello”. Other boys appeared with painted faces, holding spears in their hands, and the officer thought they were playing a game. But after he realized the seriousness of the situation, he called Percival and then asked who’s the leader. Ralph replied loudly that he is the leader although Jack protested…
